Expenses

Nightwatchmen

There are 2 ways of employing the Nightwatchmen; 1) as part of a street patrol, or 2) as static security. Currently, the band is using the first method as the second method is far more expensive.

Street Patrol – The pawnshop is one of 20 businesses along a single street patrolled by the Nightwatchmen. Because the fee is divided up between 20 businesses, the cost is much less for each. The patrol is also larger and more capable than a typical static security group. They consist of:
• 5 guild members – F1 for 5 gp/day
• 2 torchbearers (from the Guild of Lamplighters) – F1 for 2 gp/day
• 1 sergeant – F3 for 3 gp/day
• 1 darkman (demihuman with low-light or darkvision) – F2 for 2 gp/day
A total of 12 gp/day (84/week, 336/month) divided by 20 businesses = 4.2 gp/week or 16.8 gp/month. They are typically hired on in increments no smaller than 1 week.

Static Security – The second method provides constant security, but it is much more expensive and the smallest group they will allow (for their own protection) is not as capable as a street patrol. They consist of:
• 2 guild members – F1 for 2 gp/day
• 1 torchbearer – F1 for 2 gp/day
• 1 darkman – F2 – for 2 gp/day

A total of 5 gp/day (35 gp/week or 140 gp/month). They can be added to a street patrol or take the place of a street patrol. They can also be increased in size and capability for an increased fee, or be hired on for 1 or more days.

Lamplighter’s Guild

This guild is responsible for lighting the major streets throughout the city and their fee is non-negotiable and a requirement for all landowners within the city. It is a relatively low fee at just 3 sp/day (2.1 gp/week, 8.4 gp/month).

Thieves’ Guild

Currently, the guild is charging the pawnshop 2.5 gp/day (17.5/week, 70 gp/month).

Room and Board

For Emery, this amount comes to .35 gp/day.

Total Income

6 gp/day – 2.35 gp/day (Emery’s room and board) = 3.65 gp/day. 3.65 × 28 = 102.2/month
102.2 – 16.8 (Nightwatchmen’s fee) – 8.4 (Lamplighter’s fee) – 70 (Thieves’ Guild) = 7 gp/month net profit.
